The following is a brief synopsis of the history we will cover on this tour.
Mid-June of 1863, Pennsylvania's Governor Curtin can see that the Confederates are heading to Harrisburg. Citizens from Harrisburg, both black and white, start building fortifications on Harrisburg's West Shore. Also, the New York National Guard and the Pennsylvania Emergency Militia are coming in to help.
By June 28, 15,000 Rebels are in Carlisle and 1240 cavalry take Mechanicsburg. Skirmishes are now being fought along Trindle Road and the Carlisle Pike, as far as 28th and Market Street in Camp Hill.
On June 30th, Lee has to recall his troops to Gettysburg because the Union troops have caught up to him.
Unaware of Lee's orders, General Jeb Stuart's Cavalry comes into Carlisle on July 1st hunting for Ewell's men.
These sites and much more will be covered on the tour.”
